Independent curator

Maria R Garcia-Bernal

I am currently completing my MA in Contemporary Curatorial Practice. I focus on curating site-specific exhibitions by emerging artists in the public realm. An example of this is my 'I have a dream' project with Pil and Galia Kollectiv in December 2006 along Sycamore Road. For my final project I am curating 'Next Stop' exhibition in Saint Martin’s Church, Bullring. This is going to be the first solo exhibition in the UK of Spanish emerging artist Jose Luis Puche.

‘Next Stop’ is the first solo exhibition in Britain by the internationally renowned Spanish artist, Jose Luis Puche. The artist’s work, displayed in twelve large-scale figurative paintings in white and blue colours, explores the concept of materialism and how society is enslaved by possessions. Through his work Jose Luis Puche shows that modern-day society is no longer built on politics and morality but is driven by a need to consume.
