Independent curator
Tayto et Tayto - Promotional 'poster' specifically designed to attract members of the public to potentialise the possibility of the possibility of becoming possible by 'viewing' the exhibition 'Strategic Art Getts' (2005) in absentia.
If you read the caption above you will notice it says that I'm an 'independent curator' (who isn't?) This is misleading - I'm a writer. When the mood takes me I put group exhibitions together, self-publish and produce various guises of eurolux art for partisan elitists. This is what most people who proclaim themselves to be artists or independent curators tend to do, so no great suprise here. Neither an artist nor a curator be. So I'm a writer. While all of these activities are extensions of my writing, they remain subordinate to it. Writing involves distributing, transferring, sub-licensing, renting, lending, transmitting, re-selling, re-circulating, repackaging, assigning, leasing, re-insuring, reselling, re-publishing and making available the most gettish of creative abilities to develop, create or directly influence any index, data feed, valuation to third parties or any cultural services sector committed to the destruction of the tyranny of good taste. At least this is what I was told to write.
Recent exhibitions I've organised include: Ye Ye, French Institute, Edinburgh (07); Young Athenians, Destroy Athens: Athens Biennial (07); Strategic Art Getts, The Embassy, Edinburgh (05); The Garden, Castlefield, Manchester (05); Campbell's Soup (05); We Go Round and Round in the Night and Are Consumed by Fire, Liverpool Biennial/New York (03-04).
I'm also Director of the Centre for Visual & Cultural Studies, Postgraduate Coordinator in Art & Design and a Reader in Contemporary Art Theory at Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland.
