Gabrielle Teaney

Truro
Following an eight year stay in Canada, Gabrielle Teaney applies her distinctive style to her new Cornish home, reflecting on the transient nature of technology, life and the environment

My studies are in Photography and Art History, I am a self-taught painter and drawer. I started my career as a portrait artist then developed my creative voice during a 5 year period in Saskatchewan, Canada. After a rigorous mentorship application process, I took part in a year long mentorship which culminated in my first solo show. My work in oils are colourful, layered and geometric. They explore transitions and a sense of place by taking found structures, machinery and objects in our landscape, and superimposing them to create unusual compositions and shapes. Since then I have moved to Quebec where I completed my BA in Art History and recently back to Cornwall. Similarly to my SK experience, I have redeveloped myself in these new surroundings and completed my second solo show. I was a Cultivator Kernow member and am a CAMP member.
