Jilly Morris

Bristol & Chiang Mai, Thailand
I like to be inspired by place - its histories and communities and enjoy engaging with new communities. Based between UK & Thailand.

Frequently referencing landscape, the body, and diverse historical and cultural narratives, Jilly Morris is an interdisciplinary artist who produces work that is response-led, particularly to place or process. Her work incorporates drawing, ephemeral sculpture, installation, photography, and collecting and recording obscure forms of data. Having spent many years addicted to sound and translating the drawn line, Jilly is currently experimenting with the moving image and 'found sound'.

The focus of her practice is the concept of transition, including notions of unpredictability, vulnerability, and impermanence. Jilly's practice is inspired by the complexities of the human condition, the internal fragilities of being oneself, and the external events and rituals of place and people. Her work is informed by issues relating to human ecology, community, ritual, spirituality, and gender issues such as ageing.
