A Wee Bit of Light Relief

A Wee Bit of Light Relief is a collaborative venture by three Edinburgh based makers; Julia Douglas, Clare Waddle and Rebecca Wilson. The wealth of stimulus found in a house is what inspires the three to create well-crafted objects that are attractive, witty and challenging. Their practise as individuals straddles a variety of disciplines - Clare trained as a sculptor, Julia as a textile artist printmaker and Rebecca as a ceramicist. The aims of this project are to work collaboratively to create works as a collective and to learn new processes and skills from each other in order to not be constrained by material or technique. Their flagship piece is the eponymously titled 'Wee Bit of Light Relief'; a range of chandeliers in different sizes and configurations consisting of household chore related objects such as kitchen and cleaning utensils, delicately cast in low relief, white, Bone China. The objects hang from S hooks on a white three tiered frame which mimics a pan rack. The domestic accoutrements dangle, tinkling in the breeze, temporarily redundant, allowing for a break from the monotonous grind of housework to enjoy a moments light relief under the glamorous chandelier.
