Arms Plutonic 4

By  Susan Banks 2013 - 2014

Dimensions
50 x 50 x 4 cm

This painting is part of continuing work that plays with the paradoxical practice of visualising the impossible which painting reveals. It dissolves the familiar narrative, the solidified metaphor, opening up other meanings and feelings. The Arms Plutonic series spins off from a poem by DH Lawrence, Bavarian Gentians, which uses the phrase Arms Plutonic in reference to Persephone’s ambiguous relationship with Pluto, another topic in my work. Although no image is visible as such there is a reference to the Helm of Invisibility attributed to Hades.
