Beacon

Inspired by the prevalence of seaside arcades in the UK that have borrowed/replicated Las Vegas Casino branding ‘Beacon’ plays with the signs and symbols of one such borrowed identity.
The logo sign created with laser cut elements, is overwhelmingly gold and at a scale more likely to be from an arcade machine than a casino, acting as a comic pastiche of itself willing you to see it as genuine and valuable.
The lit ‘Golden Nugget’ itself, made from translucent fibreglass, lit within and with visible functional elements feels more like a genuine relic that may have formed part of a larger sign from a now closed arcade.
Perhaps this is in fact an architectural representation for a new beachside hotel, the cage structure forming a proxy for a building soon to jut from a coastal promenade
