6 levels of escalators

Originally part of an exhibition 'Bookworks' in Birmingham Central Library, this work is based on records in the local archives in the library. The glass sided escalators were used for a ribbon of words which thread through the library from ground to fifth floor. The lettering is vinyl letters on glass and the words record 141 different ways that Birmingham has been spelt from the Doomsday Book to the present day.

An installation in an exhibition Blues Skies, Custard Factory, Birmingham, UK. the light shadow was based on a image in one industrial building and transferred to the gallery in another. The gallery was roof lit and the light shadow had some logic. However the intention was to undermine the spectator's idea of the space by introducing a light that was inconsistent with other visual cues.
