"Bigfoot Imprint"

By  Tim Pugh 2017
The temporary installation is the latest in a series of artworks dealing with environmental degradation,in particular focussing on maritime pollution. The installation was created in South Beach in Whitehaven,West Cumbria and is comprised of plastic materials collected from the tideline from nearby St Bee's beach.I borrowed a plastic traffic cone from the nearby harbour and took it to the beach and adhered the plastic material onto it over the course of a few hours. The artwork took on a slightly imposing profile perhaps like the looming bow of a giant ship and was situated by the receding tideline. As ever,I Was seduced by the bright colours but didn't want to lose focus over the core objective of the artwork in which it acts to inform the audience of the sheer amount and variety of plastic matter that is now in places overwhelming and poisoning maritime environments all around the world. At the end of the day, I disassembled the artwork and took the cone back to the hole in the road it was previously guarding.
