Black & Gold

A pair of timber towers. The surface of one has been burnt, the other finished with gold leaf.
The construction of the towers allows a glimpse through, to the inside. The fragile nature of the burnt wood and gilded surfaces appear as opposites yet hold similar, timeless qualities. Both are elements of the earth that survive for millennia. Both accentuate the texture of the wood; the gold reflecting the light, the charcoal absorbing it. Gold is static and represents human aspiration. Charcoal is dead matter yet, in Australia for instance, also represents regeneration.
