This necklace is constructed entirely from found materials gathered during various South Downs walks. Part of a series of necklaces they reference environmental issues, endangered species of butterflies and research into the trash couture of ‘gender-queer’ performance artist Stephen Varble from the 1970’s. ‘The alchemical process of transmuting base material - the discarded, the despised, the degraded and the degradable - into theatre.’ ( Cotter 2019 New York Times)
