Blue Lies

By Margaret Diamond 2002

M.Diamond

A dusty forgotton 1960's office recreated, representing the years of cover ups and ruined lives through the effects of asbestos dust. A dusty 'report' summarises the history of an old asbestos factory which still stands in a residential area of Leeds, referencing various documents, government reports, articles etc in the filing cabinet. The office system of filing is used to criticize the bureaucratic system that allowed the asbestos and insurance companies to exploit workers at the expense of their health, killing many. Sounds of laboured breathing emanating from the filing cabinet get louder when the drawers are opened.
