Boat of Garten (detail)

Enzo Di Cosmo

A detail of a plant form opening, also shaped like a boat to suggest the ferry at Boat of Garten, a nearby railway halt. In the points of the petals/leaves, is the suggestion of a crown, symbolic in the local coat of arms. One of a series of seven sculptures for the junction of the Sustrans cyclepath and the Speyside Way in woodland at Dalfaber, Aviemore. The seven columns in galvanised steel reflect the surrounding silver birch trees, offset with areas of verdigris copper. Based on abstract botanical forms to reflect nature in the area, ferns and poppy seeds evolve with locomotive wheel and bicycle spindles into sculptural forms on top of the seven curved columns.
