Book Petting Zoo

By  Jonathan Lohn 2017 - 2018
As a dyslexic I came to be able to read to a reasonable level because of the aesthetic quality of holding and feeling books. This avenue to literacy might not be long available because of digitisation of reading materials and closure of bookshops and libraries. I have created 'pure form' books which contain tactile and visual structures that invite exploration. I also create paintings, studies and maquettes which act out the potential verbal content of the 'books' and connect it to written material - digitised and otherwise. This consists of 17 pieces - only a part of one of which is displayed. The making can be transmitted to others in workshops, together creating a 'zoo' of books
