Borrowed Light
Acrylic on canvas (diptych) 75cm x 100cm
Borrowed Light is a diptych made in response to medieval ‘doner’ paintings. The left panel shows a scientific model for additive colour making white light which is projected onto the right panel, via a prism, into a suspended light bulb. The ‘doner’ in this case is light itself and the recipient is humankind. What intrigues me about medieval diptychs is the powerful relationship between two joined picture planes, the proximity of left and right, of physical and metaphorical, of the unseen forces that convey energy from one place to another.
