Breath of Life

By  Alexis Rago 2007

the artist

When immersed in crowds of people I have a sense of being looked at and ignored at one and the same time. These pinhole photographs explore this conflicting sense of subjective anonymity and vulnerability. Taken at the height of tourist season in London, the setting up and taking of the images challenged the sense of normality in the context of the contemporary perceived terrorist threat. Transience and permanence coexisting during the taking of the photograph are recorded differently on the photographic image.
