Burnt Out, 20-21 Visual Arts Centre

By  Helen Snell 2012 - 2014

Helen Snell

Site specific installation at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre Scunthorpe. 5 October to 4 January 2014 Burnt Out is an ambitious new exhibition of work by Helen Snell, who uses digital laser and water jet cutting techniques to create her exquisitely detailed work. Inspired by time spent in the archives of the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth, where she had access to iconic artefacts such as Captain Scott's wooden skis and the sledge used to transport his dead body, this exhibition features spectacular large-scale works made especially for the space at 20-21. The work, cut from steel, acrylic, paper, card and fabric, tells tales of exploration, survival and the quest for knowledge in hostile and extreme environments. BURNT OUT tours nationally until 2015 Helen Snell is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
