Bush Song

By  Alice Forward 2021
watercolour and correction fluid on paper In early 2021, soon after my mother, who suffers from Alzheimers and osteoporosis, fell and shattered her ankle. It was a traumatic time, as it was the height of lockdown and she was badly affected, and almost completely immobile for months. The ‘bush’ is based on a clump of growth by the Thames near my mother’s house, but refers to our common birthplace in South Africa, and childhood memories of walking with her in the veld.
