Caged Bird

By Corrie Chiswell 2016
Oil on canvas Limited edition prints available As in ‘Little Queen’, ‘Caged bird’ utilises the cage-like structure derived from drawings of the plant Physalis Alkekengi. This painting explores ideas of confinement, either of the body or mind, resulting from oppression, incarceration or a feeling of ‘being different’. Are the wings on the figure just beginning to grow so that she might escape her situation or are they stunted due to her confinement? The image infers that the figure is psychologically unprepared for a higher consciousness or spirituality.
