Printed acrylic panels, still images, video, and sound. A site specific work created in Birnam, Perthshire, Canopy takes its inspiration from the ancient Birnam oak and its sense of being a living link to the past, and the beautiful stained glass windows of St Mary's Church, Birnam. The canopy of the oak has been re-created on acrylic panels that echo the dimensions of the blank window in the church bell tower. The panels preserve the beauty of the summer foliage as the seasons change. The work was installed high up on a staircase wall in a local hotel, bathed in natural light from a cupola above. Adjacent to the panels a small screen shows still images and videos of the piece suspended from a branch high in the woods beside the Birnam oak. Headphones deliver the gentle sounds of woodland birdlife.
