Capturing the changing times

Dimensions
29 x 38

This papercut is 3 intricate pieces layered up and it really reminded me of a fire when I’d finished it. The intensity of the red and the blue are like the very centre of the flames. I used a Victorian entomology box because I love the idea of capturing the ephemeral, the fleeting, the indefinable and containing it and fire is a bit like that, to contain it is to destroy it. The printed map is a little bit like that too, almost the moment it’s been printed the world has changed, either from a natural disaster or a man made intervention.
