City Shirt

A life sized pinstripe shirt made from human hair and red thread. The hair shirt was made for an exhibition entitled Crunch, and is displayed on a shop mannequin.
City Shirt was the result of embracing the accidental. While making vessels from hair I found myself spreading the hair that stuck to my gloves to form a layer of fragile fabric. Hair is loaded with symbolic meanings in a range of different cultures, and a hair shirt carries it's own meaning. The blood red pin stripes might link to the graphs of financial institutions, or traces of life on a hospital monitor.
