“The animals or plants that descended from a common ancestor comprise a ‘clade’. Names of groups of animals or plants are given to clades that share a set of characteristics.” Life, 1997 (Richard Fortey)
A frames connect signs to shops, commerce to creativity; they beckon us in and block our path. They are points of contact and obstacles to be navigated, connecting outside to inside, turning passers-by to punters to pounds; competing with screens their physical presence announces such and such a shop is here “Hello!” We walk-in to them, we walk round them, what if we could move them? What new patterns would the Preston public create? Sited on pavements to prick our consciousness, A frames advertise what we are walking past ‘Hey, hold on a minute, stop doing that, do this, come in …consume!’ These A frames are for their own sake, their colours highlight health and safety but at the same time their familiarity and context, a ‘one-off’ appearance at a festival, suggests something different.
