Clootie-Being

By  Liz Clifford 2025

Deer-stripped sticks, roadside plastic waste, rusty steel, discarded cloth and artificial wool, all salvaged from the rural landscape. A hybrid being, adapting and evolving. The knotted fabric bindings reference those associated with the tradition of offerings made to tree spirits in Celtic culture. The work is part of a series of forms that use the gabion basket as a central structural and iconographic feature.
