Clytemnestra Two
By

2022
A development in the Clytemnestra series. Befitting a subject of Greek tragedy this red painting explores the catharsis of revenge and retribution within the fantasy of myth. Lock-down Zoom courses in Greek Drama and Myth influenced recent work and in this painting the reference is to Clytemnestra in “Agamemnon” by Aeschylus.
The work is also about “painting” itself. The pattern is derived from the remains of a fresco to be seen in the archaeological museum of Mycenae, the supposed seat of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra.
Red, as customary, suggests both blood and fury.
Oil on Deep Canvas.
