Composition in White (Painting)

'Composition in White (Painting) was the second situation-specific work created whilst on the 'Breathe' Artist-Residency at the 501 Artspace in Chongqing China. I found 501's gallery a uniquely calming space in the midst of the bustle that is Chongqing. Having spent a great deal of time 'building a relationship with the space' I realised that this 'calming' effect entered the space along with the light through the 6 small windows behind their white cotton blinds which are situated high in one wall of the space. These windows and the ever-changing shafts of light that enters through them became the focus of my attention and eventually grew to become the 6 brushstrocks of frozen light across the canvas of the gallery.
