Cuningar Loop - Artist Workshops

The Forestry Commission's Cuningar Loop site is a large area of derelict land on the river Clyde between Rutherglen and Dalmarnock that is being transformed into a new woodland park. As Artist in Residence James worked on the site and from a studio space in Rutherglen to develop a body of research and new work exploring the Loop's changing identity from an 1840s reservoir to a 1960s landfill to a flourishing, if long forgotten, wildlife haven. Engaging local communities in this process to raise awareness of the new woodland park and the benefits it will bring to the area was the underlying focus of this activity. Workshops included soapstone carving, badger mask making and upcycling materials found on the site. The site is part of a significant Legacy 2014 project.
