Cuningar Loop - Mobile Museum

By  James Winnett 2014 - 2015
The Forestry Commission's Cuningar Loop site is a large area of derelict land on the river Clyde between Rutherglen and Dalmarnock that is being transformed into a new woodland park. As Artist in Residence James worked on the site and from a studio space in Rutherglen to develop a body of research and new work exploring the Loop's changing identity from an 1840s reservoir to a 1960s landfill to a flourishing, if long forgotten, wildlife haven. Engaging local communities in this process to raise awareness of the new woodland park and the benefits it will bring to the area was the underlying focus of this activity. The Mobile Museum was built from reclaimed materials with the help of a local 'handy folk' community group. It houses artefacts collected from the site and has toured a number of events locally as well as featuring in exhibitions in East Kilbride, Rutherglen and Green 2014 at The Lighthouse, Glasgow. The site is part of a significant Legacy 2014 project. The residency was been supported by Creative Scotland as part of the Year of Natural Scotland.
