Description Of A Building Prior to Its Demolition

By  Jim Lockey 2011

Dimensions
1682 x 1189 mm

shown as part of the Folkestone Triennial Fringe 2011, 25th June - 25th September A disused Church building stands on Foord road, Folkestone. Empty and decayed it awaits demolition. As it approaches the end of its existence Jim Lockey has created a text that describes the building and imagines its history using metaphors based in the building’s decaying features and past religious context. The description morphs into a discussion of history, memory and how architecture operates when separated from useful function. The text is pasted onto the front of the building itself, and will become weathered and decayed before being destroyed along with the building. This project was made possible thanks to the support of Harbour Community Church, Folkestone
