Disconnect

By  Charys Wilson 2015
Preconceptions of what’s beautiful and what’s not, are instilled within us from a young age by the media. The stereotypical idea of ‘beauty’ often manifests itself in the form of a young woman. I have juxtaposed this idea of ‘beauty’ with the non-stereotypical beauty of insects, combining the subject matter in a calm yet destructive way. What is perceived as repellent can upon closer inspection be seen as beautiful. Images of my final piece. The front and back images of the figure consist of 3 2ftx2ft copper etchings as well as the back image. The inside prints are made up of 3 2ftx2ft sand paper aquatint copper plates.
