Drawing: the paper surface as a landscape

I make drawings because the drawing process allows me to remember and experience again what happened in the past. I have made a lot of drawings where making the picture brought up memories of what I did outdoors, how I walked up a hill, how I carried my artmaking materials along the footpaths on Bakestonedale Moor. The surface of the ground can be difficult to walk because it is covered with tall grasses, or because it is slippy. The colours and textures of the ground outdoors resonate with me when I make drawings. Covering the paper surface with wax or oil and pencil textures makes me think of the diverse surface covers on Bakestonedale Moore. The time it takes me to cover a section of my drawing with such textures might just be the amount of time it takes me to walk up the hill on Bakestonedale Moor, all the way up to the trigpoint. The paper surface and the surface of the land can be correlations of each other.
