A laser cut installation in paper and perspex which features in A Long Shadow, a solo exhibition marking the culmination of a 3 year tenure as artist in residence at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth Historic Dockyards Nov 2016 -Jan 2017 As part of my residency I was very privileged and humbled to meet a family who had come to the Royal Navy Submarine museum to talk to the curator and trace their father who was lost aboard HMS Affray in 1951. This encounter was a vivid reminder of the long term, often unseen effects of such disasters upon the lives of families long after the event. The family spoke openly to me about the effects of this tragedy upon their lives. A submarine in cross section is the shape of a teardrop. The teardrops in my installation all have hands, and reach out to other hands in a gesture of solidarity.
