'Enemy: An Experiment With Love, Truth & Unity'

By  Clare Brumby 2020 - 2021
What the World Needs Now, is......Movement for Change 'Enemy: An Experiment with Love, Truth and Unity ' is the final performance for the Arts Council England funded project, 'Salt Act', inspired by Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolence and his Salt March of 1930, building links between India and Liverpool through open dialogues and the creation of an original piece of choreography about creating positive world change and ways of connecting. This new piece of choreography explores the relationship between unity and truth, and the power of peaceful protest through dialogue, dance and yoga. The piece focuses on Gandhi's philosophy that the primary enemy is within us, an enemy often reflecting oppressive cultural realities that impact us all, and that the adoption of the universal soul force of love and truth and an awakening to the oneness of humanity, can lead to great change in the world. Our piece for peace is Inspired by dialogues from the UK and India about how people reimagine the post-lockdown world, communicated through yoga postures, and is a collaboration with choreographer and yoga instructor, Donna Unwin and a group of non-dancers from Liverpool UK and Ahmedabad, India, developed as a creative way for people to come together, connect, increase their friendships and well-being to finally re-emerge dancing! This was performed live on zoom and streamed live to facebook on Sunday, 21st June, as part of #InternationalYogaDay 2020 (https://www.facebook.com/artistclareb...). Due to the current pandemic this year IYD2020 has chosen ‘Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family’ as its theme, which resonates hugely with this particular piece given the challenging circumstances that the COVID-19 pandemic has raised. The piece was also performed live with several of the original group, as part of Culture Liverpool's 'Without Walls' street art programme in September 2021.
