Entropy, or, in the end everything is brown

By Victoria Malcolm 2014
a two part installation: a pile of jigsaw puzzle pieces ( over 45,000) from a collection of assorted boxes bought from charity shops-unwanted or incomplete puzzles, tipped out and piled up in an irreversibly chaotic heap; the covers all mounted on the walls in groups by type of image (thatched cottage, alpine scene, stately home, flower gardens, animals etc) reflecting the proliferation of images chosen solely for the purpose of becoming a puzzle, to be completed once and sometimes never again. Images with a single destiny. Amongst the boxes I've collected are a Canaletto and a Michelangelo-they remain in their individual boxes.
