Escape

By Darius Martisius 2014

The artwork features a composition that gracefully curves from a steel tube, evoking the appearance of an imaginary cosmic musical instrument. Its funnel-shaped design draws the viewer's attention, inviting them to look within.

This piece is inspired by the concept of a fish trap, which directs fish into an enclosure where it becomes more challenging for them to escape than to enter.

The artist aims to reinterpret the idea of a fish trap within Guy Debord's critique of urbanisation and its societal effects. Debord proposed that images, consumption, and commodities increasingly mediate social relationships. Through this lens, the artist seeks to explore how the structures of modern urban life shape human connections and experiences.
