Fathom I

Dimensions
h: 19 x w: 12 x d: 10 cm

The sculptures I'm working on are a series of works called ‘Fathom’ and ‘Hot Sushi’. These combined waste materials include polychromatic foam, wax, ceramic shell, and found throw-away plastic. The work is directly influenced by environmental science and the exploration of space where planets have water regions like our own seas. Here the light begins to fade, and strange forms and monumental structures reveal themselves from the depths. Diving into our oceans in a submersible and being viewed through a thick acrylic lens can only give us a glimpse into this world of limited visual reference and tactile experience, this can then lead us to question not only the stability of our planet and pollution but also our own personal, inner mortality, and fragile existence.
