I made this oil on board painting from sketches made on site during a visit to the Battle Fields of the Western Front with my son Oliver in November 2002. The painting was selected by The Times art critic John Russell Taylor for inclusion in the Newlyn Society of Artists annual ‘Critics Choice’ exhibition held at The Newlyn Gallery in Spring 2004 and later in the month praised by visiting Arts Minister Estelle Morris.
