Flat Earths

My recent paintings are enamel paint on aluminium. They form a series of paintings of representational Earths. I control the paint by rotating the surface in a circular fashion until the paint forms what I ‘imagine’ the planet looks like from space. The paint moves like tectonic plates underneath the surface crust, causing continents to collide, islands to sever and oceans to form. Pangea breaks up and I decide the geographical finale. These reference the flatness of painting and the previous perception of the Earth’s flat surface. The repetition of painting the same motif emphasises the evolution of the planet through time and geological periods, but also an attempt by me to create the ‘perfect’ Earth.
