‘..the architectural focus shifted away from aesthetics and towards functionality.’
The project Flat Roofs came about whilst researching the Bauhaus movement. It was said that the modernist style that the Bauhaus was generating was ‘un-german’, and thus there became an architectural/political problem in the country amongst the creatives. This feud examined large scale projects, right down to the simple design of flat roofs.
Knowing the impact that the Bauhaus had on art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design, and typography, I have adopted this idea of unifying art, craft, and technology to practice and consider the modernist style, the properties of materials such as glass, steel, and concrete, and look at designing a collection of works that are indeed flat, but riddled with three-dimensional potential, like an archival drawing of sorts.
