It was Arthur Scargill, or his father. Or maybe it was Jimmy Savile. Irrespective of who it was, one of the above used to read the dictionary every day as a means of extending his knowledge and he hoped, by default, his position in the world.
If all words are recorded in such a volume with reference to their meaning, pronunciation and correct usage, then the possible combinations, and in turn, meaning, become particularly potent.
But our interpretation of what we know, and the contexts in which we deploy that data make even the simplest information problematic.
