Going Blind

By  David Jones 2020
Triptych of panels, each 81 x 54 cm. Oil on canvas. - this triptych of selfies was taken in my bathroom towards the end of the first lockdown. I was struck by the intense, low sunlight of the early morning as it streamed in through the window and in a spirit of dark humour, began making grotesque gestures in the mirror. This work reflects a period of anxiety and isolation. The title “Going Blind” is a joke about masturbation but also reflective of someone loosing themselves in the loneliness and boredom of their own company.
