Graphite Mirrors

By  June Nelson 2002 - 2003

Sally Bream

A series of panels resulting from an interest in the history of mirrors. My mirrors do not reflect a 'true' image but, rather, comment on the specularity of thought. They do not reflect back the objective truth that we expect mirrors to reveal: the surface is both shadowy and reflective, like the dark surface of the sea, and difficult to focus on clearly. These smaller works led to the construction of the large graphite-lined chamber, The Cabinet of Imagined Mirrors (2003)
