During an artist residency at Normanby Hall, Satchwill was drawn to the Regency objects, furniture and interior and the lack of stories about the domestic staff. She was interested in bringing the female domestic servant into the forefront and communicating their visibility and significance.
In Idleness is a Great Source of Evil, the film explores a domestic servant who realises her sense of self, discovering a resistance against the established world. There is a shift in power and she takes control of the system.
The film fuses different film techniques, including stop motion, green screen, location shots, CCTV footage, collage animation with text, photography, and mark-making.
The film received an Honourable Mention from the Experimental Forum for its vision and unique contribution to cinema.
