Decommissioned table crumb pan, part of the Birmingham production series. The original pan was made in the 1850s when Birmingham was a global producer of brasswares. Children under the age of ten worked regularly in the factories, working long hours for little pay. The middle-class factory owner's wealth increased at this time with many employing staff to conduct the household chores, one is waiting at the table at dinner parties. The table pan was made using child labour, who were often going hungry.
If the decommissioned table crumb pan was to be used today, it would not be fit for purpose with the crumbs spilling through onto the table leaving a reside of crumbs spelling out " HUNGRY "
