In Case of Emergency

In Case of Emergency is a small leather suitcase without a handle. Glass windows in the suitcase reveal that it contains a knot, with a luggage label attached to it. On the label is written a description of the knot, which is called a Dutch Cringle. The description advises that 'A Cringle will make an excellent emergency handle for a suitcase'. Suspended beside the glass window is an emergency break-glass hammer. The work was inspired by reading The Shipping News by Annie Proulx which uses descriptions of knots as chapter titles. This in turn led me to further research in The Ashley Book of Knots.
