In the Heart of the Place is a collaboration between Trevor Burgess and Madi Acharya-Baskerville whose images take the viewer on an imaginative journey into social and cultural worlds.
For both artists the process of making an image is imbued with their lived experience of places in the world. Filtered by subjective memory and poetically re-configured in the materiality of the painting, the resultant images invite the viewer to enter a rich, ambiguous relationship within the experience of place and culture. Both artists are inspired by social spaces in different cultural environments. Photography and found imagery plays an important role in both artists work. The exhibition will explore the process of collaboration and dialogue between the artists, who will each write about the other’s work for the catalogue.
