Short lengths of tongue and groove are joined in pairs. These are all placed facing forwards, standing on their cut edge. The grooves on the sides of the pieces accentuate the thinness of the wood and this gives the impression that the pieces are too thin to stand up. The pieces seem to defy gravity of appear suspended. The blank, flat, silent shapes all face the viewer as if they were attentive, determined, united, perhaps accusing. Associations include tombstones, monoliths, spiritual entities, people, books, something holy or supernatural. From the front the pieces can also be read as furniture, flat pack products, cupboards etc in a store or warehouse.
