Kimono My House

By  David Jones 2011 - 2012

Dimensions
71cm x 52cm x 3cm

I'd been reading a book by Philip K. Dick about if the Germans and Japanese had won World War 11 and also an essay by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami concerning the searing effect of the atom bomb on the Japanese psyche and culture. I called this piece "Kimono My House" as a play on East / West cultural exchange. It also seemed to me the exact opposite of saying "Bomb my island." My intention was to make the painting look like an illustration of a myth. The idea came from reading "Star Maker" by Olaf Stappledon. Apologies to Sparks.
