Learning to Read (2)

By  Ellen Bell 2014

Andy Chittock

Made with covers from classic orange Penguin Books, Bell’s installation On Reading, 2014 depicts a child’s first encounter with literature – one of incomprehension, wonder and delight. Her series Learning to Read, 2014 feature books that she remembers encountering as a child, long before she had the knowledge to truly understand and appreciate them. Essentially Learning to Read is about memory – one that is sparked by encounters with book jackets, whose imagery recalls a past shaped by their stories.
