Looking Through and Within

Paul Lewthwaite

This sculpture was commissioned to celebrate the new Endoscopy/Ward 22 building at Milton Keynes Hospital. I worked with staff of the Endoscopy unit, investigating procedures and equipment used in the department. This consultation helped to inform visual elements of the sculpture design. The word 'Endoscopy' means 'to look inside'. This inspired the use of curved linear components which lead the eye around and through the sculpture. The artwork also uses flowing forms and geometric shapes in an uplifting composition. Themes such as supporting, holding and resting are suggested.
